What county do you live in?
No response provided.
What position are you running for?
Texas State Comptroller
Why are you running for this office and what are your 3 main goals you hope to achieve?
It’s simple, we need to change the narrative in the Comptroller’s Office. The money belongs to the taxpayers, not the government. Right now, the office focuses on collecting revenue. I’ll focus on how that money is being spent, because ...
What are your three biggest concerns about the Comptroller's Office?
1. Respect for Taxpayer Dollars - I’m concerned that too many in government forget whose money they’re spending. Every dollar belongs to the taxpayer, not the government. 2. Oversight of Spending - The Comptroller’s Office should do more than track revenue; it should ensure ...
This is a Republican primary race. Do you promise, if elected, to abide by the RPT platform?
Yes, I promise to abide by the RPT platform.
If not, please enumerate what problems you have with the RPT platform.
I have been a champion of the RPT Platform for over 30 years
What is your view regarding eliminating property taxes in favor of increased sales taxes and increased user fees?
Texas does not have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. I have devoted the last several years of my life to fight for real property tax relief and my foundation has whitepapers on eliminating school property taxes (which you can read at HuffinesLiberty.com). I believe with fiscal restraint and ...
Many Texans have chosen to live in unincorporated areas for more personal liberty. What can you do to correct incorporated areas overspending and asserting claims on private properties?
While this is a legislative issue, I believe property rights are the foundation of liberty. As Comptroller, I will use my position to champion and defend the property rights of every Texan, not only in real estate, but also in their vehicles (personal property), their labor, and the fruits of their work. No government should ever ...
Please describe your plan for balancing the Texas budget, including what budget items need to be cut and what taxes and fees need to be increased.
As you know, the Texas Constitution has a balanced budget requirement. I will collaborate with Republican lawmakers in the Legislature to craft a fiscally responsible, conservative budget that prioritizes the needs of Texas families. By bringing disciplined oversight and transparency to the state’s finances, I will ensure ...
Do you plan to conduct a DOGE audit of the state?
Yes, and I have a timeline in mind.
If yes, when do you plan to complete the DOGE audit?
Right now Texas spends over $500 million dollars a day, seven days a week. DOGE is not just about looking backwards, it is about moving forward with business urgency in defense of taxpayers. I would argue that DOGE will never and should never be "completed." It is not simply a box to check for me, it is the ...
How will you end the transfer of Texas sovereignty regarding public roads and protect existing tax-funded roads under current GOP leadership?
As the only candidate endorsed by Texans for Toll-Free Highways, I’ll fight to keep Texas roads free from tolls. Texans have already paid for these roads, they shouldn’t pay twice. In the Senate, I filed a bill to audit toll roads, and as Comptroller, I’ll finish that job.
What are your plans for improving transparency in the Comptroller's Office?
I’ll make the Comptroller’s Office the most transparent agency in Texas. We’ll host monthly taxpayer town halls across the state and open-house meetings with legislators to ensure every concern is heard. I will bring my private-sector mindset to government. The customer should be treated with respect. As ...
Do you support or oppose creation of Improvement Districts and Economic Development Districts?
Support
Why do you support or oppose Improvement Districts and Economic Development Districts?
This is a complex issue. My view depends on the district’s purpose, funding, and accountability. If a district is approved by those living inside of it, is transparent, is temporary, and directly benefits those who pay for it, without burdening neighboring taxpayers or expanding government, it can serve a legitimate purpose. ...
What is the best mix of taxing methods for state and local government, and why is that mix the best?
The best system protects economic freedom, personal liberty, and property rights. Income and property taxes are failed and immoral; government should rely on a taxing method approved by a supermajority of the voters.
If you could fix public education funding, how would you do it and why?
If I could fix government education funding, I’d start by looking for ways to increase efficency and decrease waste. For example, Texas spends over $8 billion a year educating illegal aliens. That’s money taken straight from Texas taxpayers and classrooms meant for our own kids. The Legislature should work ...
How do you propose to make the Comptroller's Office more efficient?
Before I DOGE Texas and go looking for corruption statewide, I’ve got to start by cleaning up my own office. Step one: a full forensic audit of the Comptroller’s office itself. I need to know exactly where every dollar is going and make sure that all 3,000 employees understand the mission, because we’re not going to ...
While the Comptroller's position does not set much policy, why did you decide to run for this office?
believe this is the most underutilized position in Texas. The Comptroller’s Office has historically focused on collecting money for government instead of protecting taxpayers. Who runs Texas? The administrative state. I’m running to shine a light on where that money is spent, root out corruption, and expose the sticky ...
What differentiates you from your opponents?
I’m the only America First, proven conservative in this race, the MAGA candidate who’s actually fought and delivered. My campaign is endorsed by Senator Ted Cruz, Ron Paul, Riley Gaines, Vivek Ramaswamy, Charlie Kirk, over 75% of the Texas GOP SREC, and hundreds of conservative leaders across Texas. Read ...
What two things about your opponent do the voters need to know?
I’m the only candidate in this race who has actually exposed and shut down government corruption. I’m also the only one who has never taken a penny of government money, because I believe in serving taxpayers, not living off them. I am not for sale.
Please describe your views on gambling as a funding source for education and other budget items, and whether gambling should be expanded or reduced.
I am against all gambling.
Who are your large donors and what is their relationship to you?
I have two major donors, myself and my brother, Phil. I’m proud to be primarily self-funded, which means I’m not beholden to special interests. My campaign is driven by the people. To that point, we have the highest number of small dollar donors by a very large margin!
Please fully describe what methods of funding roads in Texas you will support or oppose, including revenue sources, tax diversions, tolls, and debt.
As I said before, as the only candidate endorsed by Texans for Toll-Free Highways, I’ll fight to keep Texas roads free from tolls. Texans have already paid for these roads, they shouldn’t pay twice. In the Senate, I filed a bill to audit toll roads, and as Comptroller, I’ll continue to fight toll roads.
In your opinion, did Dustin Burrows carry forward the conservative agenda?
No
When funding pressures and eminent domain for public works appear as solutions, what do you do and why?
This is not a role of the Texas Comptroller.
Do you support amending the state constitution to protect marriage as between one man and one woman, and to prohibit legal recognition of domestic partnerships, civil unions, or similar constructs?
Support
Why do you support or oppose this constitutional amendment?
Why do you support or oppose this constitutional amendment? We (Texas) already passed a constitutional amendment that marriage is between one man and one woman.
How long have you been consistently voting in Republican Primaries? (Please state number of years)
49
Please explain why you do or do not support the government providing financial benefits to non-citizens.
I do not support the government providing financial benefits to non-citizens. We should end all taxpayer funded incentives for non-citizens and enforce the law. Anyone in our country illegally should be deported, not rewarded.
Is there anything in your background of an embarrassing nature that should be explained before your election? (Arrests, convictions, bankruptcies, etc.)
No.
