What is the office you are running for?
Willis ISD School Board
What are the three main reasons why you think you are the best candidate running for this Board position?
Business and Leadership Experience – As a local business owner, I understand budgets, accountability, personnel, planning, and the importance of making decisions based on results. I believe that practical, real-world experience is valuable when overseeing a large and growing school district. A Unique Understanding of Our Schools – My family has been part of Willis ISD since 2017. My daughters attended Willis ISD schools, and my wife spent nine years serving the district as an educator and principal. That has given me a perspective that goes beyond being a taxpayer or observer. I have seen both the successes and challenges of our district and understand how decisions made at the board and administrative levels ultimately affect teachers, students, and families....
What are the three biggest challenges facing the board and how would you address these challenges if you are elected?
Student Achievement and Curriculum – Our first responsibility has to be making sure students are learning and prepared for what comes next. That means looking honestly at student performance, making sure our curriculum is effective and aligned with state standards, and giving teachers the tools and support they need. As a board member, I would focus on measurable student outcomes, ask questions when results are not where they should be, and hold district leadership accountable for improvement. Student Safety and Discipline – Students cannot learn and teachers cannot teach effectively if classrooms and campuses are not safe and orderly. Safety includes physical security, but it also includes consistent discipline and creating an environment where disruptions do not interfere with the education of other students. I believe schools, parents, students, teachers, and administrators all share responsibility. As a trustee, I would support clear expectations, consistent policies, and district leadership that gives our teachers and administrators the support they need to maintain safe, productive learning environments....
Would you actively pursue a third-party financial audit of the Willis ISD if elected?
I strongly support transparency and independent financial oversight. Willis ISD should continue to undergo the independent audits required by law, and those findings should be taken seriously by the board. If there were credible concerns, unexplained discrepancies, or indications that a deeper review was warranted, I would absolutely support pursuing an additional independent third-party or forensic audit. Taxpayers deserve confidence that district funds are being managed responsibly and that the board is willing to ask difficult questions when necessary.
What should a parents' role be in their children's education?
Parents should be active partners in their children's education and remain the primary advocates for their children. Schools and teachers play an incredibly important role, but parents know their children best and should be informed and involved in what they are learning, how they are performing, and the decisions that affect them. That partnership also comes with responsibility. Parents should support teachers, reinforce expectations for attendance, behavior and academic effort at home, and work with the school when challenges arise. The best outcomes happen when parents, teachers and administrators work together, communicate openly and keep the success of the student at the center of every decision.
What is your opinion of programs such as Common Core curriculum? Critical Race Theory? Social Emotional Learning? International Baccalaureate?
I believe curriculum should be academically rigorous, age appropriate, transparent to parents, aligned with Texas standards, and focused on preparing students for success. I do not support Common Core as a standard for Texas schools, and I oppose teaching Critical Race Theory or other ideological concepts that divide students based on race or teach children that they should view themselves or others primarily through the lens of race....
Do you believe the school board should be able to remove sexually explicit material from libraries and classrooms?
Yes. Sexually explicit material has no place in our school libraries or classrooms. Students should have access to educational materials that are age appropriate and support their learning, and I believe the school board has a responsibility to ensure that standard is upheld.
Will you work to remove harmful materials as defined in Texas penal code 43.24 from all school property? Additionally, do you support removing the “educational exemption” from this law?
Yes. I support keeping material that meets the definition of harmful to minors under Texas law off school property and out of the hands of students. Regarding the educational exemption, I do not believe an educational purpose should be used as a loophole to provide students with material that would otherwise be considered harmful to minors. While changing state law is ultimately the responsibility of the Texas Legislature, I would support efforts to ensure that our laws clearly protect children from sexually explicit and harmful material....
The State of Texas has passed laws banning the social transitioning of children in schools. Will you enforce this law as a member of the board and protect students from woke gender ideology?
Yes. As a trustee, I would expect Willis ISD to follow Texas law. Schools should not socially transition a child or withhold important information about a student from his or her parents. Parents have the primary role in decisions involving their children, and schools should remain focused on education while providing every student with a safe and respectful learning environment.
Do you support allowing all students to use bathrooms, showers and locker rooms, as well as participate in sports, based on the gender with which they identify, not the sex they are assigned to at birth? Please explain.
No. Absolutely not. As a father of two daughters, I feel very strongly about this issue. Bathrooms, showers and locker rooms should be separated based on biological sex, and girls’ sports should remain reserved for biological females. This is about protecting the privacy, safety and fairness that our daughters deserve. As a board member, I would stand firmly on that position.
Do you believe there are two genders? If not, how many are there?
Yes. I believe there are two genders: male and female.
What is your position on implementing a gender fluidity policy to remove all gender subject matter books & materials from Willis ISD?
I support removing materials that promote gender fluidity or gender ideology from Willis ISD classrooms and school libraries. I do not believe it is the role of our public schools to promote these concepts to children. Schools should focus on academics, and parents—not the school district—should be responsible for addressing these personal and sensitive subjects with their children.
Do you believe a teacher should be required to use a student’s preferred pronoun?
No. I do not believe a teacher should be required to use pronouns that conflict with a student’s biological sex.
Should the SBOE (State Board of Education) have total & final authority on what teaching materials are used in the classroom? Please explain fully.
No. I believe the State Board of Education should establish strong statewide academic standards, review instructional materials for quality and appropriateness, and prohibit materials that violate Texas law. However, I do not believe Austin should have total and final control over every resource used in every classroom. Local school boards should retain the authority and responsibility to choose materials that meet Texas standards and best serve their students and community. With that authority comes accountability. Trustees should know what curriculum and instructional materials are being used, listen to parents and teachers, evaluate whether those materials are producing results, and make changes when they are not....
How much access do you believe parents should have to their children's curriculum? classroom? teacher? online?
Parents should have full transparency into their child’s education. They should be able to review curriculum, instructional materials and online resources being used with their children, and they should have open communication with their child’s teachers. At the same time, teachers need to be able to teach without unnecessary interruptions or parents constantly in the classroom. We have to trust and support our teachers to do their jobs while also holding our schools accountable for transparency. I believe we can do both. Parents should always know what their children are being taught and have a voice in their education, while teachers are given the environment they need to effectively teach.
The Supreme Court of the United States recently ruled that states may ban boys from participating in girls’ sports. As a member of the school board, how will you protect female students?
As a father of two daughters, I feel very strongly about protecting opportunities for female students. Girls’ sports should be reserved for biological females. Female athletes deserve a fair and level playing field, and they should not be asked to sacrifice their opportunities, safety or privacy to accommodate biological males. As a trustee, I would support and enforce policies consistent with Texas law that protect girls’ athletics and female-only spaces. This is an issue where I will stand firm....
Would you, individually, take public, overt steps to have pornography removed from Willis ISD classrooms, libraries and campuses?
Yes. Absolutely. Pornography has no place in Willis ISD classrooms, libraries or anywhere on our campuses. If I become aware of pornographic material being made available to students, I will take public and appropriate action as a trustee to have it reviewed and removed. Protecting children is not something I am willing to compromise on.
Are you now or have you ever done business with Willis ISD or a Willis ISD official? Please elaborate.
Yes. Willis ISD reached out to my company, Palm Marketing, and asked us to assist with logo design work for the district’s schools, which we agreed to do as a contracted project. Over the years, Palm Marketing has also donated our time and services to numerous schools, programs and organizations within Willis ISD at no charge. Supporting our schools and community is something we have been doing long before I decided to run for the Board....
What curricula and/or subjects do you think should be prioritized in setting up every student for future success?
Our first priority has to be a strong foundation in reading, writing, math, science and history. If students do not master those fundamentals, we are not preparing them for whatever comes next. Beyond the core subjects, I believe we need strong career and technical education, financial literacy, technology skills, and opportunities for advanced academics. Not every student will take the same path after graduation. Some will attend a four-year university, some will pursue a trade or technical certification, some will enter the workforce, and others may serve in the military....
Would you be in favor of returning the pledge of allegiance to the American flag each morning in the public schools?
Yes. I support continuing the daily Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag in our schools. This is already required in Texas public schools, and I believe it is a tradition worth continuing.
Do you believe the Bible should be returned to the public school library? How would you implement that?
Yes. I believe the Bible is the Word of God, and I absolutely support it being available to students in our public school libraries. However, I am not aware that the Bible has been removed from Willis ISD libraries, so I don't believe there is currently anything to “return.” If the Bible were ever removed simply because it is a religious text, I would support making it available again to students....
