What is the office you are running for?
Willis ISD School Board
What are the three main reasons why you think you are the best candidate running for this Board position?
1) A lifelong connection to Willis ISD—student, teacher, parent, and volunteer. This gives me a broad perspective on how decisions made by the Board of Trustees can affect students, families, and educators. 2) Experience in both education and business, with an understanding of the challenges that come with growth and long-term planning. My professional background combines firsthand experience in education with work as a licensed real estate agent specializing in land acquisition, development, and commercial property....
What are the three biggest challenges facing the board and how would you address these challenges if you are elected?
1) Managing rapid growth without letting growth outpace quality. The Board of Trustees will need require regular, understandable enrollment and demographic updates. Every major construction decision will need to support a long-term operating plan and consider the ongoing costs of staffing, transportation, maintenance, technology, and programs before approving expansion. The Board needs to consider community input early when rezoning or major facility decisions are being considered. Of vital importance is to maintain a long-range facilities plan that balances new construction with maintenance of existing campuses. 2) Improving academic outcomes while making sure progress reaches every campus and student group. The Board of Trustees needs to analyze clear student data broken down by campus, grade level, subject, and student group. Then work to ensure campuses needing additional support have the staffing, interventions, training, and resources necessary to improve. The Board should pay particular attention to academic growth and achievement gaps involving economically disadvantaged students, special education students, and emergent bilingual students. Importantly, the Board of Trustees also needs to celebrate successful campuses and identify practices that can be replicated elsewhere throught the district. ...
Would you actively pursue a third-party financial audit of the Willis ISD if elected?
Public school districts already undergo required independent financial audits, so the key issue is not simply “Should Willis ISD have an audit?”. Is there a specific reason to commission an additional, independent forensic, operational, or performance review beyond the regular annual audit? That distinction matters because a third-party review can be valuable, but it also costs money and should have a clearly defined purpose. I believe trustees should carefully review current and provided findings and ensure any recommendations are addressed. As the district continues to grow, I would also support evaluating whether an additional independent review of specific areas—such as operational efficiency, long-term planning, or financial controls—would provide valuable information to the board and community.
What should a parents' role be in their children's education?
I believe parents should be active partners in their child's education. Families deserve to be informed about what is happening not only in the classroom, but also at the campus and district levels. The Board of Trustees has an important role in fostering a culture where parents feel valued, heard, and included in the conversation. By encouraging open communication and creating meaningful opportunities for engagement—such as town halls, surveys, and other avenues for feedback—the district can strengthen the partnership between schools and families and ensure parents have a voice in decisions that affect their children
What is your opinion of programs such as Common Core curriculum? Critical Race Theory? Social Emotional Learning? International Baccalaureate?
Texas uses the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), not Common Core. State law specifically prohibits the State Board of Education from adopting Common Core standards and prohibits districts from using Common Core to satisfy TEKS requirements. Unless the state laws are changed, the Board of Trustees would not be required to vote on usage of Common Core. Regarding Critical Race Theory: a more precise issue for Texas schools is what may be taught regarding race, history, and current events. Texas Education Code §28.0022 places specific restrictions on certain concepts—for example, schools cannot require instruction that one race is inherently superior to another or that an individual bears responsibility for actions committed by others of the same race. TEKS and ciurriculum should be carefully reviewed to ensure that facts are taught not opinions. ...
Do you believe the school board should be able to remove sexually explicit material from libraries and classrooms?
I believe students should have access to a wide range of educational and age-appropriate materials, but sexually explicit or obscene material that is inappropriate for students does not belong in school libraries or classrooms. Parents should have transparency into the materials available to their children and meaningful opportunities to raise concerns. When materials are challenged, I believe the district should follow a clear, consistent, and transparent review process that considers age appropriateness, educational value, parental input, and applicable Texas law.
Will you work to remove harmful materials as defined in Texas penal code 43.24 from all school property? Additionally, do you support removing the “educational exemption” from this law?
Yes. I support removing materials from student-accessible school resources that meet the legal definition of “harmful material” under Texas Penal Code §43.24. Schools have a responsibility to provide students with age-appropriate materials and to comply with Texas law. Regarding the educational affirmative defense, I would want to fully understand the legal and educational implications of removing it before supporting a change to state law. I believe decisions of that significance should be made carefully, with a clear understanding of both the intended protections for students and any unintended consequences.
The State of Texas has passed laws banning the social transitioning of children in schools. Will you enforce this law as a member of the board and protect students from woke gender ideology?
Yes. As a trustee, I would expect Willis ISD to comply with Texas law, including the requirements established by SB 12. I also believe parents should have the primary role in decisions involving their children and should be informed and involved when sensitive issues arise. At the same time, every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and to have a safe environment in which to learn. My focus as a trustee would be ensuring the district follows the law, respects parental rights, and keeps its attention on educating and supporting every student.
Do you support allowing all students to use bathrooms, showers and locker rooms, as well as participate in sports, based on the gender with which they identify, not the sex they are assigned to at birth? Please explain.
No. I believe Willis ISD should follow Texas law regarding bathrooms, locker rooms, changing facilities, and participation in school athletics. Students should use sex-designated facilities and participate in athletics in accordance with applicable Texas law and UIL requirements. When a student has privacy concerns or needs additional accommodations, the district should work with the student and their parents to identify an appropriate solution that complies with the law while respecting the privacy of all students.
Do you believe there are two genders? If not, how many are there?
Yes. I believe there are two genders, male and female. I also believe every student deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect, regardless of how they identify. My personal beliefs would never justify bullying, discrimination, or mistreatment of a student. As a trustee, my responsibility would be to follow Texas law, respect parental rights, protect student privacy, and ensure our schools remain focused on providing every student with a safe and effective education.
What is your position on implementing a gender fluidity policy to remove all gender subject matter books & materials from Willis ISD?
I support Willis ISD complying fully with Texas law regarding instruction on gender identity and ensuring that instructional and library materials are age-appropriate. However, I would not support a blanket policy removing every book or educational resource simply because it contains some reference to gender. Materials should be evaluated based on their content, age appropriateness, educational purpose, and compliance with Texas law. Parents should have transparency into the materials available to their children and a clear process for raising concerns. I believe the Board's responsibility is to establish appropriate standards and oversight while avoiding policies so broad that they unintentionally remove legitimate educational materials.
Do you believe a teacher should be required to use a student’s preferred pronoun?
No. I do not believe a teacher should be required to use a student's preferred pronouns when doing so conflicts with the student's biological sex. Texas law requires districts to prohibit employees from assisting students with social transitioning, and I believe Willis ISD should comply with that law. At the same time, teachers have a responsibility to treat every student professionally, respectfully, and with dignity. Disagreement over pronouns should never be an excuse to embarrass, bully, or mistreat a student. I believe teachers can maintain appropriate professional boundaries while still ensuring every student feels safe and respected in the classroom.
Should the SBOE (State Board of Education) have total & final authority on what teaching materials are used in the classroom? Please explain fully.
No. I believe the SBOE has an important role in establishing academic standards and reviewing instructional materials for alignment with Texas requirements, but I do not believe it should have total and final authority over every material used in a local classroom. Local educators understand the needs of their students, and parents and community members should have meaningful opportunities for input and transparency. Curriculum and instructional-material decisions should comply with state standards and Texas law while preserving appropriate local control and parental involvement.
How much access do you believe parents should have to their children's curriculum? classroom? teacher? online?
As a parent myself, I believe parents should have full and complete transparency into what their child is learning and reasonable access to their child's curriculum, instructional materials, classroom, teachers, and online learning platforms. Parents should be able to review materials, understand what is being taught, ask questions, and communicate openly with educators. This isn't about interfering with a teacher's ability to teach; it's about creating a strong partnership between home and school. When parents understand what their children are learning, they are better equipped to reinforce that learning at home, address concerns, and support both their child and their teachers.
The Supreme Court of the United States recently ruled that states may ban boys from participating in girls’ sports. As a member of the school board, how will you protect female students?
I agree with the Supreme Court's ruling and support protecting female athletic opportunities. Separate girls' and women's sports exist to provide female athletes with fair and safe opportunities to compete. Biological differences between males and females can create advantages in areas such as size, strength, and speed that are relevant to athletic competition. As a trustee, I would ensure Willis ISD follows Texas law and UIL requirements regarding participation in school athletics. At the same time, I believe every student should be treated with dignity and respect, including students who may identify differently from their biological sex. Protecting fairness in female athletics and treating all students respectfully are not mutually exclusive.
Would you, individually, take public, overt steps to have pornography removed from Willis ISD classrooms, libraries and campuses?
Yes. I believe students should be protected from pornography, obscene material, and other content prohibited by Texas law. As a trustee, I would take concerns about such material seriously and work to ensure Willis ISD's policies and practices fully comply with state law. I also believe materials should be reviewed using the legal standards and established district procedures rather than relying solely on individual interpretations of what constitutes pornography. Parents should have transparency into the materials available to their children and a clear process for raising concerns.
Are you now or have you ever done business with Willis ISD or a Willis ISD official? Please elaborate.
My husband was previously an owner of a civil engineering firm that has performed work for Willis ISD through the district's procurement process. I am no longer employed by the firm, and in February 2026, my husband and his business partner sold the company to a larger firm. Should the company pursue future work with Willis ISD, I will fully disclose the relationship and comply with all applicable state laws, ethics requirements, and district conflict-of-interest policies. This includes abstaining from discussion or voting when required. Transparency and maintaining the public's trust would be extremely important to me as a trustee.
What curricula and/or subjects do you think should be prioritized in setting up every student for future success?
I believe our curriculum should prepare every student to become a successful, independent, and productive member of society. That starts with a strong foundation in reading, writing, mathematics, science, history, and civics, but education should also include practical, real-world skills. Students should graduate understanding financial literacy, communication, technology, problem-solving, and the responsibilities of citizenship. We should also recognize that success after high school looks different for every student, so students should have access to strong college-preparatory courses as well as career and technical education, certifications, and other workforce pathways. My goal would be for every Willis ISD graduate to leave school with both the academic foundation and practical skills necessary to confidently take their next step.
Would you be in favor of returning the pledge of allegiance to the American flag each morning in the public schools?
Texas public schools already are required to provide for students to recite the U.S. and Texas pledges once each school day, followed by a minute of silence. Texas law also provides a mechanism for a student to be excused from recitation upon written request from a parent or guardian. I support the daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and believe it is a meaningful civic tradition that encourages respect for our country and the principles it represents. Texas law already provides for the recitation of both the United States and Texas pledges in public schools. I also believe students who do not participate should be treated respectfully and should not face unnecessary repercussions, provided they are respectful and do not disrupt others. Schools should be places where we teach both civic responsibility and respect for the rights of others.
Do you believe the Bible should be returned to the public school library? How would you implement that?
Yes. I believe the Bible can appropriately be available in a public school library for students who voluntarily choose to read or study it. The Bible has significant religious, historical, and literary importance, and students should have the opportunity to access it. At the same time, public schools serve families from many different faith traditions and backgrounds, so I believe religious texts should be treated fairly and consistently. I would support including the Bible as part of a balanced library collection that may also include other major religious texts, rather than promoting one particular faith. Any implementation should follow applicable law and established library-selection policies while respecting both religious freedom and the diverse beliefs of our families.
Is there anything in your background of an embarrassing nature that should be explained before your election? Arrests/Convictions? Bankruptcies?
No. I have no criminal history, arrests, convictions, or bankruptcies. Throughout my professional and volunteer experience, I have held multiple positions requiring background checks and state fingerprinting, and I have successfully completed those requirements. I am not aware of anything in my background that would require explanation or prevent me from serving responsibly as a member of the Board of Trustees.
